Upon learning that I would be staying at the Aloft Houston Downtown, I looked at the map and just smiled! I love the Aloft hotel brand as it fits my personal travel style completely. This boutique hotel chain is consistent from location to location as far as the services and amenities it offers. With open spaces and lounges and all the technological hook ups a business traveller needs, it doesn’t matter what city I book in; I know I’m going to have a great stay.

Aloft Houston Downtown Location

The Aloft Houston was built in the old Stowers Building in downtown Houston. It’s the perfect balance of old meets new and completely fits with downtown Houston’s other businesses who also revitalised historic spaces in the city. The result is a hotel with large open spaces and high ceilings; some even have the original crown mouldings.

Located on the corner of Fannin and Walker streets and steps away from Houston’s metro rail link. It is also right on the free Houston GreenLink bus line with two stops just steps from the front entrance of the hotel.

Aloft Houston Check-in

The staff at the hotel is always available and eager to help, and check-in was seamless and easy. Aloft is also working on technological amenities which include Keyless entry using your SPG app on your smartphone in place of a room key.

Aloft Houston Lounges

The Aloft Houston Downtown is unique as it has two W X Y Z bars at its hotel the first on the main floor and the second on the popular rooftop patio. There is ample seating in the lobby lounges which are a great place to meet some fellow travellers. When travelling alone, I love being able to get out of my room and enjoy a safe place to sit and have a drink.

Lobby lounges are large and offer plenty of seating

Next to these WXYZ bars are the Re:mix lounges which have a pool table and plenty of work tables where you can hook up to electrical outlets and connect to the hotel’s WiFi.

Aloft Houston Downtown Rooftop Patio and Pool

This has to be (next to the cozy rooms and hotel’s vibe) one of my favourite features of the Aloft Houston downtown. A huge rooftop lounge, complete with bar and swimming pool.

There is no shortage of spots to sit and lounge at, and you can enjoy the Houston skyline all around you, right from the rooftop bar.

Aloft Houston Downtown Room

The rooms at the hotel are simple and well organised. Upon walking in I saw the comfy bed and desk which had a long bench where I could lay my luggage.

Each room has a Bluetooth enabled alarm clock radio which quickly connected with my smartphone. Across from the bed was a flat screen TV with plenty of channels.

As this was a working trip for me, I was happy to have this awesome desk to set up my laptop. The desk included a handy charging station where you can connect through power or USB to charge up electronics and camera equipment.

In my bathroom, I had a spacious counter top with bliss products. A bar of soap and some body cream.

I’m not a fan of the in shower bathroom products which include an all-in-one shampoo and conditioner and body wash. I much prefer separating the shampoo and conditioner and using soap personally. If you are planning to stay at Aloft and feel the same way, plan to leave space for hair products in your luggage. In the Houston humidity, this stuff didn’t cut it for me.

In front of the sink is the usual Aloft closet which has ample drawers and hangers for your clothes. I was also able to tuck my empty luggage here.

It is also the location of the rooms easy to program safe and coffee station. Aloft provides all guests with two complimentary bottles of water and lots of coffee. If you are a huge coffee lover like me, there was also a complimentary coffee station located in the hotel lobby.

Fitness Facilities at Aloft Houston

The gym at the Aloft is located on floor 10 and is pretty small. There are two elliptical machines and three treadmills and just a few other cardio bikes. It got pretty busy in the mornings.

There are some weights and fitness balls as well, towels and a water station. If you forgot your headphones, they have a bowl of basic headphones you can use.

Aloft Houston Downtown cafeteria food

Breakfast at the Aloft Houston

My reservation included a ten dollar voucher to enjoy at the grab and go cafeteria they call Re:fuel. I ordered a custom breakfast each morning from their Early Edition menu. I was also able to grab some granola bars and other snacks or drinks there. From pastries, bagels and other small bites, to egg sandwiches and fresh fruits there were lots of healthy options here.

  1. I just got off the phone with the Front Desk – the rooftop is not open as they don’t have a permit yet.
