I have that relaxed calm feeling I get when I walk into a hotel room that has been designed for a calm serene place to stay. The room is not only calming but it is also sort of funky and there are USB and digital hookups everywhere.
Courtyard by Marriott, Buffalo NY – A Travel Writer’s Dream
Digital hookups and plug outlets is probably not the first thing the hotel would like me to notice, but I am a travel writer and often when I get to a hotel the first thing I have to do is plug every electrical item in my bags at the same time.
Laptop, camera batteries (multiple), phone, tablet and charging bars all need rebooting as soon as possible and usually I’m unplugging everything I can to get enough outlets in a hotel room to do this. But at the Courtyard by Marriott there are not only plugs and outlets all over the room, but USB ports too.
I was in the room for less than five minutes and already it was like a travel writer’s dream hotel. I almost asked my friend to pinch me!
Courtyard By Marriott Buffalo – The Room
The decor in this room is very soothing, but not taupe and boring. There is some style here from the cool lines of the funky furniture to the huge multi coloured wall behind the beds.
There are lots of drawers and closet space in the room and the back angular wall unit was hiding not only a refrigerator but a microwave as well. My only dissapointment the old fashioned drip coffee machine. Everything else is so funky and modern you’d think they would indulge us with a Keurig or Tassimo machine.
They do splurge on the bathroom products however, with Paul Mitchel shampoo, conditioner, soap and body lotion displayed prominantely in front of the white fluffy towels.
Courtyard by Marriott Buffalo – Digital Lobby
The appeal to leave our room was due to the fact that the cafe in the lobby served Starbucks coffee. I know I’m a travel writer and I love Starbucks, but with my coffee in hand I realized the lobby was also super connected digitally.
Free-Wifi is available throughout the hotel for guests and the lobby is also equiped with all the plugs you will need for your electronic devices. A great little digital cafe and bar to hang out with your laptop. Did I mention this hotel is a travel writer’s dream!
The small cafe and dining spot was open for breakfast and dinner during our stay. We were there over the weekend, and it would have been nice to see it open on Saturday afternoon. It was very cold that weekend and staying and hanging out in the hotel would have been a nice option. However, to find the best places to eat in town (and super close to the hotel) we approached the lobby smart board.
A few taps on the screen and we found all the restaurants in the area. The staff at the front desk are all too happy to share their favourites spots and to help with printing out the smartboard results.
The Ultimate Location in Buffalo
Where the Courtyard by Marriott Buffalo really delivers is the amazing location. Sitting right next to Canalside the Buffalo waterfront area the hotel is steps from the boardwalk and waterfront, the Harborcentre complex, the Naval Museum and downtown Buffalo. All the shops, theatres, sporting venues are all just a short walk away.
I highly recommend this hotel if you are planning a stay in Buffalo. It’s located right off the highway a quick 15-minute drive from Walden Galleria Mall. The Shea’s Theatre is also just a few stops on the metro line (which is free above ground) and all of Downtown’s hotspots and eateries are just steps away.
