To all my Canadian readers, Happy Canada Day! To my American friends, I wish you Happy Fourth of July! Most of all I think it is safe to say summer is here! Let’s begin our summer dreams!
What’s Happening on DTM
Sometimes the best travel assignments are the ones I give myself. I decided this Canada Day I would stay here at home in Toronto and spend time with my family. However, I did make sure to leave time to catch the special Canada Day 150 celebration fireworks off the CN Tower. Even here at home, my travel writer instincts take over!
The Art of Trying New Things
I still consider myself an amateur photographer with lots to learn. Fireworks have been a bit of a nemesis for me. They are fast and don’t leave room for fussing and trying settings on your camera. With night photography there are long exposure shots that take some time to process, and when fireworks are blasting above you, there is a panic that I’m not getting the shot. That doesn’t keep me from trying and trying again.
Let New Things Inspire You
I believe that the more I get out there and try the more fulfilled I feel. Sometimes my adventures are successful, at times scary and sometimes epic fails, but in the end, I feel great knowing that I gave it my all. I also hope that it inspires you all to try something new and discover one of your new passions.
With this late night Toronto assignment, I tried using my GoPro Hero 4 Session camera at night for the first time. Usually I strap it to my head or kayak to get some sport-like shots that I’m too afraid to bring my fancy camera to take. This GoPro experiment led to this time-lapse video of the CN Tower Fireworks and the beginning of what I hope will be some more videos on the site.
More Short Videos to Come
I’m going to try and make an effort to shoot some more video clips, either time lapse like the above or videos from my trips that I will share on Dream Travel’s YouTube channel and inside posts like this one.
More Notes from Me
I get so busy that I forget to write these little notes updating you on what’s new and coming on the site. Since I love getting your emails and hearing your feedback on the site, I plan on doing this more. As many of you know, I love answering questions as you plan your getaways to some of the places I’ve been. I don’t always know exactly where my next trip will be (they pop up on me sometimes), but I have some exciting things planned in the future.
Coming Up on the site
Here is a brief look at what’s coming this month:
- I’m currently breaking in a new pair of sandals from Keen.
- Heading out to Philadelphia for the first time.
- Will be sharing a summer packing list and putting together a little eb00k which you will all be able to download for free – featuring my packing lists.
- More stories, hotel reviews and more from my recent press trips to PEI and Cuba.
I hope you all have some great summer experiences planned. No trip or adventure is too small to be a dream! Can’t wait to hear your summer plans and suggestions. You can leave a note in the comments below or as always contact me here.
