It was my first visit to Washington DC, and it happened to be for a large conference. I realized very quickly that I couldn’t have been staying at a better hotel than the Marriott Marquis Washington hotel. Located just steps from the Washington Conference Centre, it was the ideal location for a trip that offered little time to sight see and was filled with meetings and events throughout the city.

Marriott Marquis King Room (Atrium View)

I had a lovely room in which I found myself having to work in throughout the conference. It was an ideal room for this reason. Despite sitting inside with the large indoor atrium outside my window, I found it a quiet space to work. There were a large desk and a comfy lounge chair and ottoman which proved to be a great escape from the conference.

  • Large desk with ergonomic chair

This is not advertising for the Marriott hotel chain, but an insider’s note about my experience checking into the hotel. I am not a big collector of hotel points, however, I happen to have a Marriott Rewards number, and it did come in handy when checking into this hotel. When connecting my hotel reservation with my member card number I was able to get my preferred hotel room selection when other attendees of the conference did not. I also received complimentary in-room WiFi and bottled water in my room throughout my stay. So being a member did have its privileges.

Sightseeing in Washington with Little Time

With its central location in Washington DC, the Marriott Marquis was an ideal location for quick access to popular attractions and restaurants in the city. Since I had limited time to explore and had many meetings and cocktail events around the city, I found I was within walking distance of most of the attractions or a short taxi or Uber ride away. I have no complaints at all about the Marriott Marquis. The staff was always helpful day or night, including upon my departure which was at 4 AM and they were able to get us a cab within minutes. I would not hesitate to stay at the hotel again when visiting the city for personal or business stays.
