I’m looking out my window at the CN Tower which is just starting its light display as the sun sets on the city. Outside is a cold, snowy day and here inside my warm hotel room, jazz music plays softly in the background. I wish I could live here. For one night the Toronto Intercontinental Hotel is my home as I become a tourist in my hometown Toronto.
Winterlicious Girls Getaway
It started out innocently with plans with a girlfriend for dinner at Azure restaurant during the two-week Winterlicious event here in Toronto. Why not make it a weekend? One quick call to one of my girlfriends and the plan was hatched.
Intercontinental Toronto Centre Hotel
I’ve written about my love for splurging on solo hotel getaways before. It is quite fun to change your scenery for a night and just pamper yourself. If you can escape in luxury even better right?
Feature King Guest Room
If you like a bit of luxury, then you’ll love the Feature Guest Rooms at the hotel. I had a huge king size bed, with fluffy pillows all to myself! However, should your girlfriend or partner want to join in the hotel stay part of your weekend, there are other room options.
Higher Floor Lake View Rooms
Feature rooms are located on the 18 – 25 floors and include a fantastic view of the city’s waterfront and CN Tower.
There is also a nice chaise lounge which was perfect for lounging with a bottle of wine and entertaining my friend who joined me for dinner.
Intercontinental Doesn’t Age
It’s like an annoying movie star that never looks older. Call it good genes or remarkable upkeep. The Intercontinental Toronto was one of the first hotels I reviewed over four years ago. One thing that surprised me was how even after four years it doesn’t seem to have aged a bit.
Renovated High Tech Room
The glass desk has a unit underneath that is equipped with all the outlets you could ever need, and outlets are also available by the nightstands by the bed. This hotel room was designed for the business traveller and even with all my camera gear, laptop and phone I had more plugs to spare. One of the things I remember from my last stay was you had to pay for wifi access in the room. Now there is a free wifi service available to guests at the hotel which worked throughout the building.
Plenty of Toiletries Available
With the carry-on only travel trend, we rely more and more on hotel room toiletries and Intercontinental Toronto does not disappoint. Everything you might need including a nail file, q-tips, shower cap and cotton pads were all there in the room. The Agraria products had a very powerful lemon fragrance which for me was a bit overpowering, but they are high-quality products and did the job.

Unfortunately, on this short trip, I did not get to check out the spa or the salt water pool. I did get to the hotel’s fitness room which is divided into two parts. The cardio room had plenty of machines available, and there was a second room with weights and exercise mats.
Winterlicious Dinner at Azure Restaurant
Located in the hotel lobby Azure restaurant and lounge was featuring their special Winterlicious menu during my stay. For more on this dinner read my post A Look at Azure Restaurant 2017 Winterlicious Dinner Menu.
Steps from everything
One thing I love about the Intercontinental Toronto is its location. It feels like it is just steps from everything. Ripley’s Aquarium was visible from my room, and the hotel even has Aquarium packages available. There are lots of staycation ideas for us Toronto residents.
Attractions within walking distance include:
- CN Tower
- Rogers Centre
- Air Canada Centre
- Roy Thompson Hall
- Ripley’s Aquarium (see my post here)
- Steam Whistle Brewing Company
- Toronto’s Waterfront
- Entertainment District
- Financial District
