The Iberostar Mojito Cayo Coco is a compact four-star hotel to keep in mind when planning your beach vacation. It is one of those hotels that offer excellent quality at a great price. It is also not as big as some of the sprawling resorts, so if you want a more intimate resort with all the basics, this is a good option.

Cuban Overwater Bungalows – Re-Opening November 2018

What I found most impressive about the Mojito was how the renovations went after Hurricane Irma. The rooms were restored with new furnishings, and the buildings repainted. Other than some missing palm trees the resort has sprung back to life.

There were some Overwater Bungalows available in the lagoon before the beach area. These were destroyed by the hurricane, but when I visited the property were well on their way to being rebuilt. I have confirmed that these will be reopening for the 2018-2019 season.

Once you walk up the long path past the bungalows, expect that aha moment when you view the beach for the first time. It is a long walk through the lagoons to the beach but well worth it when you get there.

It is a long walk along the walkway through lagoons to beach area

The long boardwalk may be the one thing that some people may not like about the resort. It has a very long wooden walkway which runs past the overwater bungalows through the lagoon area and over to the beach. If you want another option the sister property, Iberostar Daiquiri has a fantastic beach with a short walk from the bungalow area.

Two chairs under umbrella at beach Iberostar Mojito, Cayo Coco, Cuba

How else can I describe this beach other than super soft sand, long and wide with lots of beach chairs and umbrellas? Of course, there is the multi-coloured blue water which I personally never get tired of staring at.

Iberostar Mojito Pools

There are two pools at the Iberostar Mojito the main pool and children’s pool. The main resort pool sprawls through the center of the resort. There are some swim up bars and water features in this vast pool which is surrounded by beach chairs. I found shady spots by the pool were a bit hard to find.

Cuba day in lobby Iberostar Mojito, Cayo Coco, Cuba

I had a quick stop here, so other than the fantastic animation team that was around all day long, I did not get an opportunity to catch a show. However, It was raining at points during the day, and the team brought Cuban Day to the lobby.

They played music, served drinks and entertained everyone with lots of dancing and it helped pick up everyone’s spirits until the sun came out.

  1. Very interested in the lagoon bungalows for trip Oct 2019. Cannot find any info or availability on any Canadian travel sites. I e-mailed the resort but didn’t get a response. Do you have any more info about them? Thanks

    1. Hi Heather, Sorry it took so long to get back. My understanding from Iberostar is that the Bungalows are not yet open, which is why you are not seeing them as an option at this time. I will update the post once I hear more news!
